Advanced Medical Life Support
ADVANCED MEDICAL LIFE SUPPORT (AMLS)
Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) provides a structured, evidence-informed framework for the assessment and management of medical emergencies in prehospital and emergency care settings. Developed by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians and endorsed by the National Association of EMS Physicians, the program emphasizes systematic assessment, differential diagnosis, and prioritized intervention through the AMLS Assessment Pathway.
Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education and recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, AMLS is widely regarded as a benchmark program in emergency medical education.
AMLS is designed for healthcare professionals involved in prehospital and emergency medical care, including:
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs)
Advanced EMTs
Paramedics
Nurses
Nurse Practitioners
Physician Associates
Nurse Anesthetists
Physicians
Remote and offshore medical providers
The programme builds your skills beyond recognising symptoms, guiding you toward structured and effective clinical reasoning. Using the AMLS Assessment Pathway, participants strengthen their ability to evaluate patients, develop differential diagnoses, and apply evidence-based management across a broad range of medical emergencies — including cardiovascular, respiratory, neurologic, endocrine, toxicologic, and septic conditions.
Through realistic case studies and patient simulations, AMLS enhances critical thinking and fosters confident decision-making in both urban and resource-limited environments.
Designed for emergency medical technicians, paramedics, nurses, physicians, and remote healthcare providers, AMLS promotes a systematic, efficient approach to medical assessment that enhances clarity, accuracy, and patient outcomes.
The AMLS course emphasises the application of medical education through structured case analysis, skills integration, and patient simulation. Core subject areas include:
Pharmacology in emergency care
Respiratory disorders
Cardiovascular emergencies
Shock states
Sepsis recognition and management
Neurologic disorders
Mental health emergencies
Endocrine and metabolic crises
Environmental emergencies
Infectious diseases
Abdominal emergencies
Women’s health emergencies
Toxicologic emergencies
The programme incorporates extensive patient simulations to strengthen critical thinking and clinical reasoning across a broad spectrum of medical presentations.
Upon successful completion of the Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) course, participants will be able to:
Apply the AMLS Assessment Pathway to systematically evaluate patients presenting with complex medical conditions.
Develop structured differential diagnoses based on history, physical findings, and clinical indicators.
Integrate pharmacologic principles into safe and effective emergency care decision-making.
Recognise and manage time-critical medical emergencies, including shock, sepsis, respiratory failure, and neurologic crises.
Demonstrate clinical reasoning through case-based analysis and structured group discussion.
Adapt medical assessment frameworks to dynamic, resource-variable, and austere environments when appropriate.
