CoROM CPD Week

CPD Week 1536x768 new

CPD WEEK OVERVIEW

The CoROM CPD Week is an intensive six-day professional development programme designed for healthcare providers working in remote, austere, expeditionary, offshore, humanitarian, maritime, and conflict environments. The programme combines a series of internationally recognised courses into a single immersive training experience, allowing participants to develop advanced knowledge and practical skills across trauma, medical, paediatric, and prolonged casualty care disciplines.

Unlike traditional healthcare education programmes, the CoROM CPD Week contains no classroom PowerPoint lectures. The entire residential programme is built around instructor-facilitated skills stations, case discussions, moulage patient encounters, and realistic scenario-based training. Participants are expected to apply pre-course knowledge to complex clinical situations rather than passively receive information in a lecture environment.

All scenarios are specifically designed around the challenges of remote and austere medicine. Cases reflect the realities faced by expedition medics, offshore practitioners, humanitarian responders, military personnel, wilderness providers, and remote healthcare professionals working in environments where resources are limited, evacuation may be delayed, and prolonged patient management is often required. Training emphasises clinical reasoning, teamwork, leadership, communication, resource management, and the adaptation of evidence-based medical practice to operational environments.

By the end of the week, participants will have completed dozens of practical skills stations and realistic patient scenarios, strengthening their ability to assess, treat, monitor, and evacuate patients in some of the world’s most challenging healthcare settings.

COURSE DELIVERY

All courses are delivered through a hybrid learning model, requiring participants to complete mandatory online pre-course learning and examinations before attending the residential component in Pretty Bay, Malta. This approach ensures that classroom time is devoted entirely to practical application, clinical decision-making, and hands-on skills development.
