Welcome to the Applied Microbiology course where we have put together curriculum specifically designed for medical professional working in prehospital, A&E departments and remote clinics.
The textbook is Microbiology: A Systems Approach which is: Microbiology: A Systems Approach 2nd edition.
Over the next few weeks, you will use the lectures on PDF, the textbook, flashcards, videos and audio lectures that can help you to learn about microbiology as it relates to a healthcare professional. All of the content can be downloaded for offline study.
Once you have a fundamental understanding of microbiology you can start your patient assessments with Dr Grech, who will grade them and give you feedback on your knowledge of microbiology as applied to healthcare scenarios.
The final exam can be taken once you have completed all of your study options and have received satisfactory results from your patient assessments. The final exam is 50 questions and is multiple choice. You must receive 80% in order to pass your microbiology.

Chapter 1: Main themes of Microbiology
Chapter 6: Intro to Viruses
Chapter 11: Physical and Chemical Control of Microbes
Chapter 12: Drugs, Microbes, Host—The Elements of Chemotherapy
Chapter 17: Diagnosing Infections
Chapter 18: Infectious Diseases of the Skin and Eyes
Chapter 19: Infectious Diseases of the Nervous System
Chapter 20: Infectious Diseases of the Cardiovascular & Lymphatic Systems
Chapter 21: Infectious Diseases of the Respiratory System
In order to pass this course, you must pass the final exam. You will have one hour to answer 50 multiple choice questions. You must correctly answer 40 questions or more to pass. If you fail the exam you will be given remedial work and given one final chance to pass the exam. If you fail a second time you fail the Microbiology course and must enrol into the course again.
