This programme is designed for healthcare professionals working in remote, austere and resource-limited areas. It is designed to provide the skills needed to work in tropical environments and learn to assess and treat infectious casualties found in resource-limited environments.

The course aims to develop the skills and knowledge required to understand, assess, treat and prevent diseases especially prevalent in tropical and developing countries where resources may be limited. This programme will prepare the healthcare professionals for work in health clinics and District Hospitals in resource-limited countries in Africa, Southeast Asia and Central and South America. 

This qualification will provide fundamental knowledge to work in a resource-limited healthcare setting and in a clinical laboratory.

This module develops the skills and knowledge required to assess, diagnose, treat and prevent tropical diseases prevalent in tropical and developing countries. The module includes fundamental concepts of tropical infectious diseases, the treatment and prevention of disease, the biology of infectious diseases and parasites and their vectors

The module builds on the topics taught during TMH701, providing clinical laboratory skills that are needed for the laboratory diagnosis of tropical medicine and infectious diseases. Delegates will learn to use desktop microscopes, smartphone microscopes and with other laboratory diagnostic capabilities to identify infectious agents that lead to the assessment and treatment of the infectious casualty found in tropical climates.

This module builds on previous knowledge and focuses on case management of diseases in resource-limited and remote environments. Focus is placed on discussions,  group exercises, and instructor-led case studies that use knowledge of tropical medicine, clinical laboratory diagnosis and clinical assessments learned in earlier modules. This will be supplemented with presentations from CoROM lecturers and subject matter experts that are based on case studies focusing on the top ten tropical diseases found globally.

This capstone project requires and enables candidates to produce an integrative piece of work incorporating the developed knowledge and skills from the programme into a final dissertation (8,000 words). Focusing on blending theory with practice in a tropical medicine context.

This course was designed for the healthcare provider looking to work for Doctors’ without Borders, World Health Organisation, International Red Cross/Red Crescent and similar NGOs. The course aims to develop skills and knowledge required to understand, assess, treat and prevent diseases that are especially prevalent in tropical and developing countries where resources may be limited. This programme will prepare the healthcare professional for work in health clinics and District Hospitals in resource-limited countries in Africa, Southeast Asia and Central and South America. 

This qualification will provide a fundamental knowledge to work in a resource-limited healthcare setting and in a clinical laboratory. 

Entry Requirements: 

  • Primary degree   All applicants must meet the EU requirements for having a level 6 (or higher) healthcare-related degree or a level 5 degree that is healthcare-related with additional work indicating that they can successfully progress with graduate-level learning. 

Target Group: This programme is designed for healthcare professionals who would like to work in tropical countries and learn to assess and treat infectious diseases found in resource-limited environments.

Additionally, the delegate can choose to gain experience in a District Hospital or clinic located in a tropical environment. This can be arranged by the student or the College can assist with placement in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. This is not a requirement for earning this degree.
