Recognition Of Prior Learning
What is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a review and award process that evaluates the knowledge and informal learning an individual has gained outside of the classroom through work, military, and life experiences. It provides them with an opportunity to have their skills and competencies assessed against established learning outcomes and formally recognized with an award of academic credit.
RPL begins with an evaluation of the documentation or evidence of experiential learning measured against specified learning outcomes, competencies, or standards.
The goal is to provide learners with credit for what they already know and can do, reducing duplication of learning and enabling faster progress toward a credential.
